Our weekly acting workshop provides comprehensive, ongoing New York training in the Todoroff Acting Technique; a proven approach developed from Tom Todoroff's decades of experience coaching actors in theater, film and tv in NYC, Los Angeles and worldwide. In addition to his background studying at Juilliard, with Stella Adler, and Harold Guskin, he also trained with Cicely Berry, longtime Head of Voice for The Royal Shakespeare Company, who entrusted him with the culmination of her life’s work in Working Shakespeare. He also collaborated extensively with Michael Shurtleff, famed author of Audition and casting director for Mike Nichols and Bob Fosse, as well as Harold Guskin, author of Stop Acting. The technique focuses on four core pillars:
- Text Analysis: Learn to break down scripts with Shurtleff & Todoroff's Fifteen Guideposts.
- Physical Awareness: Master movement and body control through The Six Viewpoints (originated by Mary Overlie)
- Vocal Awareness: Develop vocal strength and variation with our Four Parts of Vocal Variation.
- Work Ethos: Build professionalism with principles from The Four Agreements (by Don Miguel Ruiz), Three Tenets and Three Techniques.
Students work on a diverse range of material, including scenes, monologues, and audition scripts for film, TV, theater, voice over, commercials and original works - preparing them for professional opportunities while building the confidence that comes from an unshakable skillset and a clear point of view on the material.
Every live, online workshop begins with a 30 minute technique review, followed by a Voice / Speech / Movement Class with a Guest Artist that changes weekly followed by a 3.5 hour Acting Class led by Tom Todoroff. Full Schedule Here.
Workshop members choose a weekly class day when they enroll (Saturday, Monday or Tuesday) but it's always fine if you need to change it around, as your schedule changes. For example, If you're a Saturday member, but then, one week it's better for you to attend on Tuesdays - that's fine.
We include the technique review and the voice / speech / movement lessons with Guest Artists with the intention of encouraging actors to cultivate a full vocal and physical warm-up before any rehearsal or performance. You also get recordings of these warm-ups so it's easy to keep up this practice on your own time if you can't be there live for any reason.
You can always keep your camera off during the class if you prefer (just be ready to turn it on if you've signed up to work in class that day!). It's easy to log into and out of the class or switch devices if you need to.
If you can't make it live to class - you can attend on a different class day and/or catch up by studying the videos!
