Great acting isn’t just about emotion—it’s about presence. At the Tom Todoroff Studio, we call this mindfulness in motion—the practice of being fully alive, moment to moment, in your work.

It’s not about getting it “right.” It’s about showing up with breath, body, and voice aligned—aware, intentional, and responsive.

Rooted in Awareness, Not Just Emotion

Emotion is powerful, but it’s not enough. Personal connection can actually shut you down if it hits too close. That’s why we teach the Totter Op technique—a full-body approach to performance that includes:

  • Text analysis (with the 15 Guideposts)
  • Physical awareness (through movement and stillness)
  • Vocal variation (rate, pitch, dynamics, inflection)
  • A grounded work ethos

Mindfulness in motion means making strong, clear choices—not from your head, but from your whole self.

The Body Is the Storyteller

Acting lives in the body, not just the mind. That’s why we train movement and breath alongside script work. When your choices are physical, they’re visible. And when they’re visible, they connect.

Stillness becomes a choice.
Breath becomes a tool.
Movement becomes storytelling.

Acting Is a Relationship

Great acting is both competition and communication. Every scene is a power struggle—a negotiation—and that tension drives the story forward.

As we say in class: “We don’t go to see resolution. We go to see people wrestle—with themselves, and with each other.”

That struggle isn’t just emotional. It’s physical. And when you train to embody it, performance comes alive.

Experience the Shift

At the Tom Todoroff Studio, we train actors to be present, responsive, and rooted in their craft. Every week, you’ll work with Tom and our master teachers to develop voice, movement, and presence.
